Your community

Young people

We’re here to help children and young people be the best they can be. Through safe, welcoming spaces and detached youth support out in the community, we encourage social, emotional and personal growth, giving every young person the chance to reach their full potential.

  • School support

Our Youth team works with schools in Wythenshawe through one-to-one and group sessions, workshops and the Peer Power Hub mentoring programme. Our youth workers help improve attendance, behaviour and engagement in inclusive environments. The service helps you build confidence, learn new skills and look after your wellbeing. It brings together learning, personal growth and support from the community.

  • Detached and outreach youth work

Detached and outreach youth work engages young people in their communities, such as streets and parks, providing informal education and early intervention. Outreach youth work connects young people to safe spaces and structured activities, sharing information about services and building trust. Both aim to prevent escalation, address anti-social behaviour and create safer communities.

  • IAG youth workers

Our information, advice, and guidance (IAG) youth workers offer 1:1 mentoring and group support to build confidence, resilience and positive decision-making. They provide practical advice on health, relationships, education, employment and wellbeing, and work with partners like GMP Engage Panel. Referrals can be made by emailing YouthInvolvement@wchg.org.uk

  • AQA Unit Awards

We are an approved centre for the AQA Unit Award Scheme, providing formal accreditation in personal development, creative arts, sports and citizenship. Unit Awards help young people gain confidence, enhance CVs, and celebrate achievements, particularly for those who struggle in traditional academic settings.

  • Youth bursary fund

Our youth bursary fund offers grants up to £500 (or more in exceptional cases) for our tenants aged 11–18 years (up to age 25 with SEND) to support their goals. Priority is given to young people facing challenges, including looked-after children and young carers, and funding can cover tutoring, sports equipment, cultural activities and training opportunities.
