Hoarding

Hoarding is when someone struggles to throw things away, even if they don’t need them. This can lead to cluttered homes that affect safety, health and daily life.

If you or someone you know needs support, we’re here to help, not judge. We can work with you to make homes safer and connect residents with the right support.

What Manchester City Council do

Bins and recycling

Bins and bin collections are managed by Manchester City Council. Their website has all the details you need.

If you’ve put the wrong items in your bin (also known as contaminated), it won’t be emptied. If it hasn’t been emptied, take the wrong items out, put them in the right bin ready for your next collection day.

You can also take items you don’t want to the recycling centre on Longley Lane, Sharston.

Large unwanted items

Manchester City Council can help with you with large items, like fridges or sofas, to be thrown away. You can have one free collection of up to three items, a year. You will need to pay for any extra collections.
