Gardens, trees and green spaces

We're proud to look after the green spaces that sit at the heart of Wythenshawe.

Wythenshawe Community Housing Group

What we're responsible for

  • Keeping communal gardens and green spaces neat and tidy
  • Cutting the grass on the land we look after (Manchester City Council does their bit)
  • Sorting out gardens at empty homes
  • Tidying up walkways, garage spots and paths the council doesn’t cover
  • Taking care of grass and bushes in our play areas, we also look after the surfacing and equipment too (Manchester City Council looks after all the parks)
  • Keeping the brook sections that we’re responsible for running freely
  • Cleaning 330+ shared areas in our blocks
  • Helping tackle fly-tipping with Manchester City Council and Biffa
  • Recycling where we can and sending less to landfill

Last year, in 2024-25:

  • 4 million

square metres of grass cut. That's about 500 football pitches.

  • 3,154

maintenance visits to paths and green spaces.

  • 14,000

    trees kept safe and healthy.

  • 11,000

cleaning visits of shared areas like lifts, lobbies and stairs.

Our trees

We only cut back or remove trees if they’re dead, dying or diseased. We check our 14,000 trees every five years and sort them when needed to keep things safe.

How to identify a problem tree:

  • Dead or dying: It’ll have no leaves, crumbly branches, peeling bark, mushrooms or fungi on the trunk
  • Diseased: It’ll have strange-coloured leaves, sap leaking out, bugs or pests, rotten or dead bark
  • Dangerous: It’ll have a cracked trunk, damaged roots, be leaning or hanging over paths or roads
